Measuring and planning: Studying blueprints and specifications to determine materials, dimensions, and installation procedures 
Preparing: Mixing mortar by hand or with a machine, and cutting, shaping, and trimming bricks and blocks 
Laying: Laying bricks, blocks, and other materials in rows, designs, and shapes, and spreading mortar between joints 
Checking: Using a spirit level, laser level, or plumb line to ensure rows are straight 
Sealing: Sealing foundations with damp-resistant materials 
Refurbishing: Restoring brickwork and masonry
